Duca Duca Diapers – A Cloth Diaper Review

About two months ago, I ordered a Duca Duca diaper off of Baby Half Off.  I meant to order a Maude diaper, but I made a boo boo.  But, hey, my mistake.  And I had the diaper, so I figured I’d try it out.  I’d never heard of Duca Duca diapers, but up until that point, I’d never had a diaper that I didn’t ultimately like.  So, here’s my cloth diaper review of Duca Duca diapers.

About the diaper: The Duca Duca diaper is a one size fits all pocket diaper.  It comes with two inserts (a newborn size and an infant size), as well as replacement elastics for the legs.

The Price: The diaper seemed like a decent price at around $8.50.  It’s definitely the cheapest diaper that I’d ever bought.

Duca Duca Diapers Review (Cloth Diaper Addicts)The Fit: Like all of my diapers, it claims to fit from eight to thirty-five pounds.  All that I can say is that there is no way that the diaper will be that range.  Maybe six to thirty pounds.  It runs extremely small.  The rise is pretty low as a result, and the fit is extremely trim.

Construction: On the surface, it looks like a small FuzziBunz.  The snap configuration is very similar to Fuzzi Bunz (which is a good thing; that’s the one configuration that my husband loves because he always knows where the snaps go).  The quality of the inserts is somewhat FuzziBunz like; the inserts seem to be four layers and of a similar weave of microfiber.  The edging on the diaper inserts is cheaper, and the PUL is definitely not the same quality as the name brand diapers.  The inside of the diaper (that goes against baby’s butt) is really odd, though.  It seems like more of a polar fleece than a microfleece.  Interestingly enough, it doesn’t pill much at all.  It just seems like the diaper would be really warm to wear.  However, Norton was unbothered by it.

Asthetics: I love the bright red color of the diaper.  It’s a wonderful, vibrant color, and all that I was hoping for.  However, there’s a duck embroidered on the back… and while it might be cute with a lighter colored diaper, on our red diaper, the duck looks like it has glowing red eyes.  So, that totally kills some of the cuteness factor; the duck looks demonic.

Effectiveness: I gave this diaper three tries before coming to a conclusion – it does not have a home in my cloth diaper stash.  I have never had a diaper that leaked so badly.  It doesn’t just leak around the edges.  It leaks straight through the shell.  I contacted Duca Duca diapers on Twitter since they followed me to see if maybe I needed to “seal” the diaper or something, and they didn’t answer.

The glowing red duck eyes gives it a creepy effect instead of a cute one.

Conclusion: It is a dirt cheap diaper for a reason, and that reason is that it’s junk.  I’d have to definitely classify it as a “do not buy.”  I hate this diaper so much that I’m giving it away to a friend who is using cloth diapers but doesn’t have a large enough stash.  Maybe it’ll work better for her than it did for us.  If it doesn’t, then at least she’s not out anything except maybe having to wash an outfit.  As for me, I have never had a diaper that I hate so much.  This is the first time I’ve decided that a diaper has no place in my cloth diaper stash.

Have you used Duca Duca diapers?  How did they work for you?

  1. I’ve never used these, but I laughed out loud about the demonic duck. You’re right, it is creepy.

  2. Haha, wow, I bought 4 of these off a steal site & while I certainly don’t LOVE them, I don’t hate them. I agree with your review up until the leaking – they’ve never leaked for me (my son is 2 & about 30lbs). They are really small though, they won’t fit him for much longer. I’m debating just selling them or trying them out on #2 due in March…they’re the last diapers I reach for in my stash.

  3. I bought several of these from BabyHalfOff.com. I also have the leaking problem. My DD is 20 months, 25lbs, still wears Carter’s 18mo clothes, and is average hieght. They barely fit her and she walks funny because the leg holes are so small. These diapers are trim, but they fit like FuzziBunz Smalls. I’ve stripped them with RLR and washed them in Rockin’ Green. Hate ’em.

  4. I bought a bunch of these too and they were fine for the first month or two but seemed the more I washed them, they leaked straight through. Definatley not happy!

    • On the bright side, at least they didn’t cost much. It would suck even worse to get such a crappy diaper at premium diaper prices.

  5. Interesting that it comes with replacement elastic. I wonder if they found that the elastic wears out quickly??

    • I think it was because it was a knock off of FuzziBunz, and back then, FuzziBunz one size diapers came with replacement elastics.
