Mommy Time Interrupted

As a stay at home mom, I don’t really get a whole lot of mommy time to myself.  I don’t have the drive home on the way from work to decompress or whatever.  It’s all Norton and puppies all the time.  I don’t generally mind, though.  I usually manage to slip in mommy time when it’s needed thanks to the assistance of the husband.  He’s a great dad who is very involved, so I don’t have to “ask him to baby-sit” or any other such nonsense.

But I thought today would be my chance for a little relaxation.  I have a stack of books from Amazon that I’m trying to get through.  And I really, really wanted to just take a bubble bath.  Norton was finally taking a nap, so I figured I’d take advantage of it.  I took the dogs out for a quick potty break, ran my bathwater, and grabbed Natural Childbirth: The Bradley Way, and got my towel, bottled water, and other comforts ready.  And then I settled into my wonderfully hot and bubbly bath water.  Mommy time was underway.

I was on page 8, reading about the differences between the Bradley Method and Lamaze, when I heard two worthless mongrels (also known as my dogs, Winston the Wonder Chihuahua and T’akaya the Brilliant Border Collie… and interestingly enough, T’akaya is the yappy one) barking like mad.  I hissed at them to shut up and then held my breath, hoping that the racket wouldn’t wake Norton.

I turned to page 9 when I heard it.  My little boy was no longer sleeping peacefully.  He was whining.

Darn it.

I slammed the book down on the closed toilet, pulled on a robe, and trudged my way down the hall.  I gently opened the door to the nursery when I caught a whiff of poopy butt.

Crap.

And then Norton fought the diaper change, and it was a yucky one.

Just like that, my blissfully peaceful mommy time was blown.

I am not a happy mom at the moment.  Here’s hoping that I have the time to relax and read through my Bradley Method book and to go through the course material with the husband before we go into labor.

On the plus side, though, Norton is playing with a storage tote by opening the container and closing it.  In between, he’s picking up his Buddy Bear to give him cuddles.  At least my kid is wicked cute.  That’s the only thing that’s making my frustration subside.

I really did want that bubble bath.  sigh

Comments

  1. i just took my first bath today in over a year. It is serious Mommy time. Sorry yours got interrupted

  2. Isn’t it funny how things like a bubble bath take on a whole new level of decadence once you become a mom. I received a gift of girly bath stuff months ago and cannot bring myself to use them because I know I will be so grumpy if my time is interrupted. I hope you get a second chance very soon.
