5 Reasons Why I Carry a Small Diaper Bag

Some moms like to carry everything but the kitchen sink when they go out with children… and the only reason that the kitchen sink stays home is because the plumbing gets in the way.  Me?  I like to travel light.  Here’s why I carry a small diaper bag.

1.) I can always find what I need.  When I carried a big diaper bag, I couldn’t find anything.  There was just so much of everything that I was overwhelmed and ended up pulling things out to find what I was looking for.

2.) I know what’s in it.  When you don’t have a lot of space, you make economical decisions regarding that valuable diaper bag real estate.  I don’t have random gold fish crackers floating freely at the bottom of my diaper bag.  It’s small, so there’s no room for crap that I didn’t clear out the last time.

3.) It’s easy to go.  My basic list of what goes in my diaper bag (even when we’re using cloth diapers on the go) is so very brief that I can pack an empty diaper bag in two minutes.  I don’t stress over what goes in it.  Honestly, there’s not enough room to stress over any aspect of the bag.

4.) It’s lightweight.  My bag doesn’t weigh more than my baby.  It doesn’t weigh me down.  In fact, I suspect my small diaper bag when it’s full weighs about the same as my large diaper bag when it’s empty.

5.) I avoid becoming the family pack mule.  There’s none of this crap about handing me random things and expecting me to stuff it in the diaper bag.  Sorry, no room.  Be a responsible individual and keep up with your own stuff or leave it in the car/at home/somewhere else.  I’ve got my stuff and I’ve got stuff for two kids.  Deal with your own.

What size diaper bag do you carry?

Comments

  1. I have never even carried a diaper bag. I just shove an item or two in my purse as needed. I keep a few things in the car, too. I figure, am I going to change a diaper in the middle of Hobby Lobby? No way. I’ll go to the car. Anything else can wait. 🙂

  2. I’m inspired! I carry way too much stuff in my diaper bag and I hardly ever use it anyway!

  3. Anne Sweden says:

I’ve been carrying a big one around for years and I’m so close to being done with this! Your post really pushed me over the edge, especially since we’re about to go on vacation. I’m already going to have a purse and a baby carrier….why add to my shoulder strain or weigh down my stroller?

  4. We have a medium-sized diaper bag. However, our diaper bag is JUST a diaper bag. Only diaper stuff for my daughter goes in the bag.

  5. And now you have convinced me that I “NEED” a new smaller diaper bag 😉 I have been pining after the JuJuBe Between for a long time and now I will blame you 🙂

  6. Angela Bellamy says:

I had a diaper wallet I made for my daughter so I didn’t need the whole bag just to run the store, etc. Then I switched her to cloth diapers and it was too small for them. I designed a cloth diaper wallet that has a dry side for the diapers/wipes and a wet side for the dirty diapers. It’s in the testing stages but most of the feedback I got was good. I’m hoping to have it for sale on our site by Sept 10th, if not before. It will make trips out in cloth diapers so much easier. 🙂

  7. I’m not a purse person to begin with. My wallet & keys are all I need. I DO have large bags (Some of our trips are rather long) but mostly they just double as shopping bags for the trip back home! I honestly prefer a small diaper bag. Even without a car the sink always has water, I can wet down the wipes easy.
