The All-in-Two Diaper Comparison

I love my all-in-two diapers.  They’re wonderfully versatile and can make packing a cinch.  The problem that comes into play is… well, where do you start?  Is there a better or worse one?  Are there different features?  How are the various all-in-two diaper brands the same and how do they differ?

In a nut shell, all of the diapers have advantages and disadvantages.  There are four all-in-two diaper types that I’ve got experience with, and I’ll break them down in a nice, handy chart.

Best Bottom Flip GroVia Swaddlebees Capri
Disposable insert no yes yes no*
Double gusset yes no no yes
One size yes yes yes no
One Size Insert no yes yes no
Insert Attachment snap in yoke snap in yoke
Natural Fiber Insert yes yes yes no*

Doubler option yes no+ yes no*
Wipeable Inner yes yes no yes

About those special marks

+While Cotton Babies did not make a doubler specifically for the Flip diaper, the yoke style means that there’s no reason why you can’t double stuff the Flip with another insert or just put a BumGenius insert under the Flip insert.  You can most certainly work around it.

*Swaddlebees Capris are a different type of insert.  Like the Flip, it’s a yoke style, so there’s no need for a doubler.  You can just add extra layers under the yoke.  It’s neither organic nor just microfiber; instead it’s layers of birdseye cotton over microfleece.  There is no just natural fiber option, but Swaddlebees does suggest that they have other options, such as fitted and prefolds.  While there’s no disposable insert made specifically for the Capri, the Swaddlebees website suggest using the gDiaper flushable inserts as an alternative.

All-in-Two Cloth Diaper Comparison (Cloth Diaper Addicts)

Top row, left to right: Swaddlebees Capris, Flip, Best Bottom
Bottom row: GroVia

Would I say that any one all-in-two diaper is inherently better than the others?  Not really.  It’s a matter of what you like, what your budget likes, and what your baby likes.  Personally, I tend to grab the GroVias last, but that’s because I don’t have any of the stay dry inserts and I do prefer materials that will wick moisture away from my baby’s bottom.  I like to travel with Best Bottoms because of the ease of using the same diaper on either of my children.  I enjoy the Flip because I like the closures.  I like my Capri because it’s just absolutely gorgeous.

Do you have a preferred all-in-two in your cloth diaper stash?

  1. Grovia is my favorite AI2 diaper. I use them as my out and about diaper because they absorb a lot and they are less to pack around. I tried the best bottoms but really didn’t like them at all. They fit my kids terribly, sad because the diaper shells are cute.

  2. Alaina Bullock says:

My sister loves the Grovia diapers! She swears by them!

  3. Susan Bewley says:

Wow! Thanks! I really want to try cloth diapers when I have kids!

  4. jenn huey says:

I wish I could go back and o it all over again… with that said, I will be encouraging my kids to use cloth on my grand babies

  5. This is a great reference for finding the perfect all in two. 🙂 I think based on this I would like Grovia the best. Thank you!

    • They are great, the only thing I dont like is when my son poos it gets on the cover and I cant wipe it clean and air it out. Other then that the systems working for us.

  6. Thanks for this comparison! The chart is very helpful at distinguishing the differences 🙂

  7. Thank you for this chart! I am just getting into cloth diapering & this makes comparing them so much easier for me. I think the one that has the best options for me, based on the cart, is Best Bottoms. I’ll have to give them a try.

    • Sarah R says:

I use best bottoms on my son and love them. They are easy to use and work great! As he got bigger I made my own inserts that do not snap in but I don’t have any problems with them sliding around and not catching messes.

  8. Kim Baggett says:

I’ve only tried the Flip. I love them. Super easy. I like the fact that you can use prefolds in them easily too. In fact, that’s my night time choice most of the time. The prefold size I have is a little long for it to tuck under the flaps, so I fold it down a little more in front to give my little guy extra protection. Works great! I also found that I can easily use 2 flip inserts together for nighttime (just 2 minor leaks)…..but the prefold works better 😉 (no leaks).

  9. Ashley Feit says:

We love our Grovia shells; we actually use them with prefolds rather than the snap in ones. They work great with disposable gDiaper inserts, as well!

  10. Has anyone tried Smart Snugs. They look really cool. We only did pockets with last kiddo. really looking hard at AI2s this time around.

  11. My favorite used to be Best Bottom, but, if I had to start over, I would go with Buttons Diapers.
