Thirsties Stay Dry Insert Review

Recently, I got a Thirsties Stay Dry insert from Cozy Bums, my local cloth diaper store.  Kerri had just gotten them in and wanted to know what I thought.  The Thirsties Stay Dry insert is a two piece insert that snaps together.  It’s very similar to the Thirsties Duo pocket insert.  One piece is hemp/cotton blend; the other piece is microfiber topped with a wicking microfleece.  Like the rest of the Thirsties line up, it’s made in the USA.

What’s Awesome About the Thirsties Stay Dry Insert

Thirsties Stay Dry Insert Review (Cloth Diaper Addicts)Typically, I hate hemp.  Thirsties, however, is the exception.  Because of the way they blend the hemp with the cotton, it’s still super soft.  I find that it’s less prone to stinking than other hemp solutions.  That it’s two pieces snapped together means that it dries very quickly.  This gives me a way to have all the awesomeness of Thirsties Duo inserts in other diapers as an after market insert.  I’m currently really enjoying using it in AMP and Ella Bella Bum diapers.  I’ve used it on Eudora (who is, admittedly, far from a heavy wetter) with no overnight leaks.

I’ve been considering giving it a shot in Flip diapers and in Blueberry Capris since the stay dry microfleece top means that it can go against baby’s skin.

What’s Not Awesome About the Thirsties Stay Dry Insert

Honestly, I’m really struggling to find what’s wrong with this insert.  Because it’s hemp, it takes multiple washes to get it ready… and because of the snaps, I can’t boil it.  It’s not the trimmest insert in the world when used in diapers that aren’t made by Thirsties.  At approximately nine dollars, it’s not exactly a cheap insert.

In a Nutshell?

I love this insert.  It’s truly becoming my favorite insert ever.  For the last three years, I’ve been one who pretty much always sticks to using inserts from the same manufacturer.  I don’t mix and match much.  The Thirsties Stay Dry insert is an exception.  I just might buy more and replace other microfiber inserts with it.

    They work great in Capris.

    • That’s an awesome idea! I never considered using them for that. 🙂 I’ve been using Flip stay dry inserts in my Capri. 🙂

I LOVE these inserts! I bought a half a dozen of them about 3 years ago and they are still working wonderfully wash after wash. Mine do not have the snaps though…maybe this is a new feature?

Anyways, this is my favorite insert for my Flips, Imagine covers, and gDiapers. Very absorbent and super trim.

Oops…I am speaking only about the Thirsties hemp insert itself 😉

      • I LOVE the Thirsties hemp only insert. I have one of those, too. I use it in conjunction with a newborn Best Bottom insert in an AMP diaper. 🙂

  3. I haven’t tried a new Thirsties product in awhile. I always found their inserts super heavy and thought they dragged the diaper down. these sound intriguing though.

    These inserts are so fantastic!

I’ve been hearing so much about these lately! Love that they promote made in the US! Will have to try these 🙂

  6. Leela R. says:

These sound like great inserts. I have the thirsties hemp inserts in non-stay dry, but having them stay dry makes these even more versatile.

  7. These sound great.

Thanks for the information – I was considering these but wasn’t sure. You have sold me!

I love their hemp prefolds, these look nice too.

I have one of these and love it! I save it for occasions when I know my daughter will be in a diaper for awhile and I don’t want any leaks 🙂

  11. Never tried a hemp blend insert but your review really sold me on this one.

I actually have this insert, it was on my registry before I gave birth. I’ve prepped it, but haven’t touched it since. Definitely trying it tonight!

  13. I’m glad you like this! I found one at a used cloth diaper sale near me for $3.50, so I bought it because I knew the price was good and the stay-dry microfleece felt so soft. This post gives me some ideas of how to use it!

  14. Michelle Lee says:

These are my favorite inserts. I’m definitely buying more size 1 for the next baby. They are so much trimmer than prefolds in the size 1 covers.

  1. […] Then, of course, there are diapers that I use a different brand of insert with: I prefer Thirsties Stay Dry Duo in my AMP diapers, but I prefer AMP hemp inserts in my Ella Bella Bum and Diapers by Chris […]
