Fancy Poop Catchers, Ladies!

I love my cloth diapers.  I have a fair amount of mainstream brands, but my collection of WAHM diapers has been growing by leaps and bounds.  I can see why.  They’re beautiful.  They can often be well-made and fun, along with highly collectable.  But here’s the thing: they are still fancy poop catchers.

I have a ridiculous stash that’s to the point that I’ve stopped inventorying it.  I’m better off not knowing exactly how much I have.  I think I’ll re-adjust it to have lists of what I’ve used, et cetera, so that I don’t have to know how much I actually have.  But, still, I also know that everyone who uses cloth diapers has different reasons for their love of fancy poop catchers.  That being said, there are some things that I just don’t get.

“It’s just too pretty to use!”  That’s a comment that floors me, and it’s part of the craziness that can be a turn-off.  Yes, some of my WAHM diapers are absolutely breathtaking to behold.  They coordinate so well with a multitude of Eudora’s outfits.  I’ve bought some Ella Bella Bum diapers just because I like how well they go with some clothes.  I’ve bought outfits to go with Diapers by Chris creations I’ve had custom made.  I love that they are unique and quite frequently well-made.  Why would you have something that’s beautiful and then not use it for its purpose?  Are you able to somehow appreciate the beauty of your fancy poop catchers when they are new in package?

I’ll say it again:

They are just fancy poop catchers.

Fancy Poop Catchers! (Cloth Diaper Addicts)

If you’re collecting beautiful, expensive fancy poop catchers in hopes that they will continue to grow in value, I’ll remind you of the Beanie Babies craze.  People went insane on those, spending hundreds of dollars in the hopes that “the one” would become valuable enough to pay for their children’s educations.  My grandmother did the same thing with Barbie dolls.  Now I have several vintage Barbie dolls that are still in their original boxes… and are seldom worth more than the original sticker price.

If you get some kind of pleasure out of looking at your fancy poop catchers with the knowledge that they have, in fact, never caught poop, more power to you.  But I want the most beautiful cloth diapers out there to be functional, too.

Have you ever had a cloth diaper that was “too pretty to use?”

  1. I’ve never had a diaper “too pretty to use”. I love and use all of my fancy poop catchers. 😀

  2. Brooke Greene Komar says:

If I could have an entire stash of EBB I would be in CD Heaven!

  3. Haha. I didn’t know what to expect when I clicked on “fancy poop catchers” but this post was amazing! I’ve looked at some diapers and thought I wouldn’t ever want to use them because they look so nice…so I don’t buy them. What’s the point. I want them to look nice, practically match a few outfits (unless it’s a special occasion), and catch poop…well! 🙂

  4. I use all my diapers, even my more expensive ones. I do save my favorites for when I think baby has already pooped though, lol.

  5. I have a no-fail constipation cure. Put my daughter in MY FAVORITE, most prettiest diaper. You bet she’ll poop in it. 🙂

    • LOL! Sometimes I’ve found the same thing. Either that, or start the load of cloth diaper laundry. Or put her in a new diaper.

  6. Sadly my daughter has figured out to take off even the snap on diapers so there isn’t any point in her wearing the cute coordinated ones as outfits. I don’t have a big enough stash to have any that are too pretty to use but I do have a Christmas one that I put away until the next Christmas.

  7. Ha! Love it. Gotta keep things in perspective.

  8. LOL, I never thought of people collecting CDs with no intention of actually using them. I don’t have many WAHM diapers, but those I do get used! After all, I paid good money for them so I might as well get my money’s worth.

  9. No I don’t. Mine are actually bland. I can’t imagine buying a poop catcher and NOT using it. I would feel compelled to use it more often due to it’s loveliness.

  10. Anne Sweden says:

I know a lady who collects older diapers, like from the 1940’s and 1950’s. In fact, she bought some used Curity prefolds from me a while ago for a pretty penny. Her collection is sort of historical, I guess?

    • Sure. And it’s a niche museum specific thing. But unless the Smithsonian comes calling for an exhibit, she probably won’t get much more for it than she spent. It’s cool to buy because they’re worth it to YOU, but people should never be shocked when it’s not so valuable to others.

  11. I use them all equally. it doesn’t bother me that my guy poops in his goodmamas, afterall that’s why I bought them. some people are just crazy to spend $40 on a diaper and not ever use it!

  12. lol–yup

  13. I love the Hello Kitty diaper! Why buy it if you aren’t going to use it?

  14. I like the Hello Kitty look!

  15. Allyson Bossie says:

I have a boy, so all my cloth diapers were perfect for use. My favorite was a great argyle print, but, yep I let him poop away in it. Even if I had a girl and ruffle butts, still gonna catch that poop! They cost too much to not use! Of course as much as I want more, I never bought more than I needed. My husband is a loud complainer over my spending 🙁

  16. I have never not used a diaper that I bought. Catching pee and poop is the whole reason for buying the diapers 🙂

  17. I have a little stash of lovely WAHMs poop catchers that I bought specifically so my babies could wear them! I don’t have any diapers that I don’t use (well, except some that I really don’t care for). If I paid a pretty penny for a diaper, it darn well better be great at catching poop! lol
