Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover Review

I frequently receive products for testing so that I can share the results with you.  Even though I receive product for free, it does not impact my opinion.  Every now and again, though, someone asks me if I’d like to review a diaper meant for a newborn baby.  Since my youngest is now two, I’m a little past the newborn stage.  Fortunately, our local cloth diapering community is filled with awesome moms who don’t think it’s the slightest bit strange for me to ask to borrow a child as a test subject.  For the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go cover and Nuggles Naturals organic bamboo prefold, I borrowed my friend Nikki’s daughter Small Fry.Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover Review (Cloth Diaper Addicts)

About the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover

The Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover is a two size cover system.  Size 1 is intended to fit from 6-20 pounds; size two is for babies 15-40 pounds.  The “tuck” part comes into play with the design: like Flip, Capri, and Planet Wise covers, the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go cover has a yoke style.  You just tuck your insert under the front and back flaps to help the inserts stay in place, wrap it around your baby, and go.

The PUL is a thick and sturdy grade that still retains stretchability.  It’s an exposed PUL inner.  The Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go cover also features double gussets, snap down rise, and a Velcro closure.  The insert used by our tester is the Nuggles Natural organic bamboo prefold.  Nuggles is a Canadian owned company with products ethically made in China.

Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover Review (Cloth Diaper Addicts)About the Tester

Small Fry was a wee baby at one month and seven pounds when she tested the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover.  She’s cute as a button, but considering how heavily she wets, I suspect that all of Small Fry’s internal organs are the size of a quarter… except for her bladder.  She’s a ridiculously heavy wetter, able to soak a Bummis newborn prefold in a single pee.  And she goes a lot.  Because she’s an exclusively breastfed baby, she has a once a week bowel movement.  As cute as Small Fry is, I have to wonder how something so very tiny can produce such a large quantity of gross at one time.

What’s Good about the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover

Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover Review (Cloth Diaper Addicts)The Nuggles is a yoke style all-in-two.  This is actually my favorite style of all-in-two because you can easily use it with prefolds, Thirsties Duo stay dry inserts, or Flip or Capri inserts.  While the inserts do have some degree of movement because they are just slipped in place, the weight of baby combined with the yoke at either end of the diaper is enough to keep the insert right where you want it.

I like the heavy grade of PUL used.  It feels sturdy and held up well to Small Fry’s abuse.  The snap down rise is great because it gives a wider range of sizing, making it possible to get a nice fit on a little one like Small fry or on an early mover.  I suspect that I’d actually be able to get Eudora in this cover with no problems; she’s two and petite.  It’d be on the largest setting, but still doable.  Because the PUL is exposed, you can easily wipe this shell clean and reuse for multiple diaper changes.

The double gussets did a wonderful job of containing Small Fry’s disasters.  Since Nikki knows to expect something horrendous at some point in the day on a Saturday, she makes sure that Small Fry is in a double gusset diaper.  This one did the job nicely.  The Nuggles Natural organic bamboo prefold was folded in half instead of trifolded, and it fit beautifully in the cover.  The prefold remained soft through multiple washes.

What Could Be Better

I’m not a fan of Velcro.  The Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go cover does have a very sticky Velcro that will absolutely stay attached to the landing strip on the front, and that Velcro does a great job of staying attached to the laundry tabs.  However, it’s also really tough to get off of the laundry tabs and I suspect will eventually get gross from all of the pulling.  And as much as I understand the logistics behind a two size system (it’s crucial to have diapers that fit the outliers in sizing, too), I generally prefer to buy a one size system.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a low cost cover that will last beyond the newborn stage, the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-Go is a great choice.  It’s a low cost cloth diapering option at around $11 Canadian and is owned by a Canadian small business.

Have you used the Nuggles Tuck-Wrap-And-Go Cover?  What was your experience like?

I really did like velcro for those first months so the velcro would be a draw for me.

  3. I really like the pattern – but understand what you mean about Velcro – it’s sometimes more of a hinderance than help!

  4. I like double gussets, particularly for younger babies! This is good to consider as another option to Bummis SuperBrite.
