Bummis Duo-Brite ai2 Review

Since Eudora is approaching potty training readiness, I’m really feeling the pressure to try all the diapers before I run out of time. The Bummis Duo-Brite ai2 has been in my stash since they were released. As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to give it a shot.

About the Bummis Duo-Brite

Like all Bummis products, the Bummis Duo-Brite is made in Canada from materials made in the US. The Duo-Brite cover is essentially the replacement for the Super Brite cover. However, the Duo-Brite has two sizes instead of 5 and snap closures instead of Velcro. The double gussets that made the Super Brite fabulous are also included in the Duo-Brite design. Unlike previous Bummis creations, the Bummis Duo-Brite is a true all-in-two diaper with a snap in insert. The Bummis Duo-Brite is a two sided insert: one side is a wicking material so that your baby’s bottom will stay dry; the other is organic cotton so that only natural fibers touch the skin.

What I like About the Bummis Duo-Brite

Have I mentioned that it’s made in Canada with materials from the United States? Seriously, just buying Bummis Duo-Brite diapers makes me feel all virtuous: I’m creating jobs in both the country of my birth and the country I call home. I also like that you can have your choice of organic and stay dry fibers in the same insert. The insert’s method of snapping in only at one end guarantees that the same insert will fit regardless of which rise setting you use for getting the best fit to your child.  The seam down the middle to hold the two sides of the inserts together means faster drying time.  The inserts are quite thirsty and super trim. At first, I had a hard time telling which side was the stay dry and which side is the organic… so I asked Shirley of Bummis how to tell the difference.  It turns out that you can tell them apart by looking: the darker side is the organic side and the lighter side is stay dry.

Bummis Duo Brite All-in-Two Review

The double gussets do a fabulous job of containing any mess your child can produce (even the ones that make you wonder if you’ll need an old priest and a young priest). The inner is exposed PUL for an easy to wipe surface. And because it’s a two size system, you will be able to get a fabulous fit on your newborn at the small end and your toddler at the larger end.

What I Don’t Love About the Bummis Duo-BriteBummis Duo-Brite All-In-Two Review

The Bummis Duo-Brite is the replacement for the Super Brite… And it came with the same prints that the Super Brite used. To put it simply, the Duo-Brite prints are not anything new or exciting, and cute prints and simple solids are an important consideration for me. (However, I do have hope that they will bring more of the beautiful limited Super Lite prints over to the Duo-Brite as time goes on.) I also find that the inserts can sort of rumple along the edges as they shrink a tiny bit in the dryer. Also, because it’s a two size system, it will mean buying two complete sets for the difference in size for both the inserts and the covers.

The Bottom Line

The Duo-Brite is a definite improvement over the Super Brite. At $56.95 US/$59.95 Canadian, it is a bit of a pricey diaper, but you should have at least one in your cloth diaper stash.

Have you used the Bummis Duo Brite?

  1. Bummis gifted me a DuoBrite to thank me for my work on the GCDC, and I have been meaning to do a review! I have the same pros & cons as you do! However, they sent me an insert from a newer batch that was heat-treated, and it barely wrinkled at all at the edges compared to the first inserts I received.

The Simply Lite has some cuter prints…. and I agree, the DuoBrite needs some print updating, too! I actually LOVE the DuoBrite inserts in my Simply Lite covers, so people could spice up their stash with those prints while still choosing Bummis! (my Montreal homegirls!)

I’m with you for theirs prints, not very original

  3. Anne Sweden says:

This is such a great brand that you can feel good about purchasing! It’s interesting to compare this to the Super Brite, as I used those covers on my newborns, but did not care for how thick and stiff the PUL was. Is it the same with this shell?

    • It’s equally thick. The heavy grade of PUL is part of why they hold up so well. I’ve had some donated to my chapter of Cloth for a Cause that are 6-8 years old and are still in fabulous shape.

  4. Amanda Felton says:

Thank you for the review and the giveaway. I love that these diapers are north american made! I have never tried one and they are kind of out of my price range. From the pictures they do look like they are comfortable on your child.

  5. Christina Holliday says:

Thanks for the review! The more I read about these, the more I want one. I’m pretty my next diaper will be one of these because they are cute and have great reviews. This would be my first ai2 and I’m very excited about that!

  6. We plan on cloth diapering when baby gets here and want to use covers with pre-folds. I would like to try the Duo-Brite cover. I also like that the diaper is made in Canada from materials made in the US…aka not from China (Winner!).

  7. I am a bummis fan! These are on my list to try. Thanks for the review. I usually use prefolds and covers so this is awesome.

  8. This is good to learn about! I haven’t heard much about this system at all. I love that they’re made in North America.

  9. I like the insert idea! Would love to try this on my newborn and toddler. 🙂 I’ll buy more if I like it as our stash needs upgrading.

  10. I don’t have any bummis at all in my stash yet, so it doesn’t bother me if the prints are outdated. I really like the design!

  11. I love the Duo Brite! The inserts are so soft and padded. Would love to have more!

  12. I love that you not only explained how to tell the difference in insert sides but also added a picture! I don’t have any bummis since I’m just beginning this journey but they sound wonderful and definite must-add!

  13. Christi Bailey says:

We have several Bummis cover and we love them. It sure would be super to give their diapers a try!

  14. I just bought the limited edition elephant print and love it! I also had the same problem telling the difference for which side goes up.

  15. I love the double gussets but at that price I really don’t know I can justify buying one! I would be afraid to use it and that just defeats the purpose! OR I would absolutely love it and it would break my heart that to buy more would break the bank!!

  16. I am clueless about cloth diapers but really want to try them. These look like they could work for us! Love the patterns!

  17. Thanks for the giveaway

  18. I too wish they had new prints.

  19. I’m just wondering. Made in Canada from products from the US. Are the materials not available in Canada to be 100% Canadian made or are the materials in the US of a higher quality or more inexpensive even with the currency conversion to purchase? I’m quite clueless when it comes to diapers that are not disposable. To be honest at $59.95 that is pricey and I would think out of a lot of folks price range. I could see purchasing one but that would be about the extent of it. Love the colours and patterns that I have seen and the diaper itself looks adorable.

    • Labor in Canada is extremely expensive, and in Quebec, it’s even more expensive. And then, of course, there’s things like cotton doesn’t grow in Canada. 🙂

It is quite expensive, but since it’s for 3 changes, it at least brings the price down to something more in line with other brands. Plus, they hold up so, so very well. I’ve received Super Brite (which the Duo-Brite replaced) as donations for Cloth for a Cause… and found that they were several years old. No repair needed. Bummis uses extremely high quality materials.

  20. I love Ai2’s and have not tried Bummis yet! Love that they are made in North America and definitely want to give them a try!

  21. I hope to win…I’d love to give these a try!

  22. Jodi Armstrong says:

love that it is made in Canada & materials are also from North America. Also love organic cotton insert that looks really trim

  23. I like that they are made in North America. Lots of fun prints to chose from too.

  24. These are such cute prints! I don’t have any bummis and have never tried them! I love that they are made here!!!

  25. Wow that is a BIG DIAPER!

  26. Very thorough review, which I always appreciate! My issue is that they don’t offer solid color options and only prints.

  27. Claire Rheinheimer says:

I’m just now getting into covers, I would love to try these. And I actually like the prints.

  28. Bianca Munoz says:

I love the snap in soaker and the double gussets.
I wish they would come in velcro as well. Dad and grandma find those easier to use.
I would love to try this diaper, we are Bummis fans!

  29. Bummis duo Brite covers are so cute and colorful! Sounds like the insert is quite nice as well. I would love to try these!

  30. I like the choice of Stay-Dry or Cotton all in one insert. It took me a little while to get used to the way it snapped in, but I like that with that design you never have a snap exposed if you chose to use the shell as a cover rather than as an AI2. I do wish they would come out with some more exciting print choices.

  31. I like that the diaper has the double gussets for extra protection and that it is will fit two sizes. I like that the insert is either cotton or stay dry; options are always nice! Thanks!

  32. Mellisa patterson says:

I’ve never tried this brand but the review really makes me want one. I love how u can pick which side I want with just one insert.

  33. Liann Cook says:
