Check out this handsome little devil! He’s rocking the AMP in burgundy.
It frequently seems that cloth diapering twins or higher orders of multiples would be so, so much harder than cloth diapering one… or even having two in cloth of different ages. However, Brooke, a local Prince George mummy, is cloth diapering twins with style. She shows that it really IS doable! Here’s Brooke’s story:
When we first found out we were expecting twins so many things went through my head. The first was “thank goodness I don’t have to do this again” (extreme morning/day/night sickness). Then the thought of we are going to need TWO of everything and it’s going to cost TWICE as much. TWO! [Read more…]
Recently, I received an AMP Duo diaper for review for the Summer Cloth Giveaway. The AMP Duo is a one size cloth diaper made in Canada by a Canadian cloth diaper company. I tested the diaper out on my own little model, Eudora, and loved it so much that I bought more.
About the AMP Duo
The AMP Duo is a creation by Annie Marie Padorie (or AMP). When Annie’s children were small, she wanted to use cloth diapers. However, none of them worked quite the way she wanted to, either with fit, finish, or effectiveness. Like most moms, Annie was about being a problem solver. Since she couldn’t buy the diaper that she wanted, she designed and made her own. AMP Diapers is a Canadian company and her diapers are still made in Canada. The reason that the AMP Duo is called the Duo is because you can either use the diaper as a pocket or as an all-in-two. If you want to use it as a pocket (which is my preferred method), just stuff an insert inside as usual. If you want to use it as an all-in-two, simply lay your insert on top. (Important: do NOT use microfiber if you want to use it as an all-in-two.)
What’s Awesome About the AMP Duo
Whenever I get a new diaper, I pull it out of the packaging, turn it over in my hands, flip it inside out, and take a look at the stitching and the PUL quality. The finish on the diaper is wonderfully clean. It holds up quite well. The snaps are firm, but not so firm that it’s a tug of war to get them on or off.
I find that when stuffed with the hemp insert, it’s very trim. In fact, it’s so trim on Eudora under shorts that you’d think she was wearing a disposable. Another surprise: I generally hate hemp. I find it to be too stiff and scratchy. While the AMP hemp inserts are not as silky smooth as bamboo, they are much softer than the average hemp insert, and quite effective for my little princess. I think I’m actually going to go ahead and buy more of them.
It’s also a beautiful fit. She’s currently wearing her AMP Duo on the middle snap rise, so I have a hard time imagining it not fitting her. I can actually getnNorton into one with room to spare at 34 pounds.
The colors in the AMP Duo line up are also incredible. You’ve got the normal array of blues and pinks and oranges… but there are also some different, deeper hues that most big name manufacturers don’t do, like burgundy and olive.
What’s Not Awesome About the AMP Duo
I’m not really in love with the placement of the opening. I prefer stuffing (and unstuffing) from the back. The only changes that I’d make to the design of this diaper is that I’d have it as a rear stuffing so that I don’t have to get my fingers wet or have to make sure that the pocket opening is closed. (When it’s in the back, the weight of the baby, even when squirming and fighting, will keep it closed.)
I don’t love that the insert is a separate purchase from the shell, but considering how much more I like the hemp than the microfiber (which is so odd for me!), I’m okay with that.
In a Nutshell?
I need to buy more of this diaper. I’ve got a baby shower that I’m going to tomorrow, and there will be fluff. Plus, there’s a dark purple shell that my husband will just love.
Do you have the AMP Duo?
It seems like a lot of people out there really can name a favorite cloth diaper if asked. Heather over at The Parenting Patch is a Best Bottom fanatic. K, a local friend, was all about the BumGenius with her daughter. And my good friend Nikki is all about the AMPs. Sure, K and Nikki will play with other brands and really enjoy some of them, but at the end of the day, they know what their favorite cloth diaper is.
When I see a question like this one:
“Have you ever found a diaper you love so much you want to sell your whole stash and buy only them?” [Read more…]
