Daily Cute Fluffy Bum - GroVia (Cloth Diaper Addicts)Today’s cute little princess is modeling a GroVia hybrid diaper with an organic cotton insert in Surf.  It matches her little dress so well that she doesn’t need a diaper cover.  (Besides, why would you want to hide such a cute diaper in the first place?)

Infant Cloth Diapers for 36 Hours Straight!

I’ve been using cloth diapers from pretty much the beginning.  Mind you, I’ve never exclusively cloth diapered, as there are times that Huggies brand diapers are just so much more convenient.  However, for the last 36 hours, I have successfully used only infant cloth diapers.  36 straight hours in infant cloth diapers was actually a lot easier than I had expected it to be.

I didn’t use any one particular type of cloth diapers during this time period.  I have GroVia diapers, BumGenius 4.0 diapers, a BumGenius Elemental, and a ton of FuzziBunz cloth diapers.  I have to say, it was an adventure, and I’m quite proud of myself for managing for this long. [Read more…]

New Cloth Diaper Reveals for Spring 2013

There are a few definite signs that spring is here.  One, of course, is that there’s finally no snow left in my yard and that most of the local trails are clear.  The other is that companies are announcing their new cloth diaper prints.

It seems like every time I think that it’s time to downsize and I manage to get rid of a few less used items in my cloth diaper stash, the new cloth diaper lines come out and I see things that I just have to have.  If it’s a release that have matching boy/girl diapers for Eudora and Huan, then Huan’s mom and I are all over that.

Fuzzi Bunz New Cloth Diaper Prints

FuzziBunz new prints are limited edition.  The left one, called Swirl, reminds me of roses.  I’m completely loving it.  The right new cloth diaper print is called Puzzle, and is to represent the living puzzle of Autism.  Autism is a cause that is very near and dear to Tereson Dupuy’s heart, so it’s extremely appropriate.  That being said, I’m looking forward to adding Swirl to my stash.  Because, you know, I just don’t have enough diapers.  And I think Huan will look very handsome in the Puzzle.

So, ignoring the typo, I’m loving the vibrant colors!  The citrus is a really nice, acidic yellow.  The persimmon will add a nice pop of color.  Nice job, GroVia!

Rumparooz New Cloth Diaper Prints

Rumparooz new cloth diaper

Rumparooz has presented us with a super trendy stripy pair called Dexter (left) and Quinn (right.)  Huan’s mom suggested that these might be the new matching pair that we’ll have to get for Huan and Eudora… But I’m really just loving the Dexter.  Okay, so the name makes me think of serial killers with a code rather than diapers, but it’s just a killer cute print.

Hmm.  The more I look at the Quinn, though, the more it grows on me.

ThirstiesThirsties New Cloth Diaper

Okay, the new cloth diaper from Thirsties (called Polka Dance) is seriously cute.  I love the white piping that’s always present on the Thirsties Duo Pocket, and this print is no exception.

Counterfeit Cloth Diapers – Who it Hurts

This is a real GroVia. No counterfeit cloth diapers here!

Buying responsibly can help avoid getting counterfeit cloth diapers.  (This one is real.)

We’ve heard about counterfeit cloth diapers and cheap knock offs being distributed.  I figured it was time to ask some diaper manufacturers how counterfeit cloth diapers impacts both customers and consumers.  Kim Ormsby, founder of GroVia, was kind enough to respond.

1.)    How pervasive is the counterfeit cloth diapers issue?

It is impossible to put concrete numbers, but the counterfeit diaper issue is very significant and growing.   The modern cloth diaper market is RAPIDLY growing and legitimate brands are working hard to meet the market demand in the U.S.  This has spawned a large number of counterfeit diapers both made overseas and here in the U.S.  Patent infringement, copyright infringement and products not meeting the CPSIA standards have flooded the U.S. diaper market.

2.)    How can buyers spot the fakes?  Do you authorize any diaper stores on eBay?

The best and more recommended way is to make sure you are buying directly from an authorized retailer.  Avoid coops, auction sites, and “buying direct from factory”.   We do not currently have any authorized diaper stores on eBay.

3.)    How does counterfeiting impact you as a seller?

As a legitimate and growing household brand we spend an incredible amount of time and money on product development, artwork, third party testing for safety, and protecting our intellectual property.  This means our customers can trust that the product they are buying is high quality, safe, and ethically manufactured.  This cannot be said for counterfeit products.  The price of counterfeit products is attractive to today’s families, but it comes at a great cost to legitimate brands who truly have the safety of American children at heart.   If buying the most inexpensive diaper is the driving force for U.S. consumers, they will eventually be left with a host of counterfeit products to choose from and very few U.S. brands.  Legitimate U.S.  and WAHM (Work At Home Mom) brands will be squeezed out of the market.

Customers concerned that they cannot afford to purchase diapers from U.S. brands should consider prefolds/covers, buying second hand diapers, or buying package deals with a discount.  The fact is, that even buying the most expensive brand of cloth diapers you are saving money over disposables.

Thank you so much, Kim, for answering some questions!

Have you ever ended up with counterfeit cloth diapers?  What was your experience?

Cloth Diapers – Best and Worst for Poo (Part III)

Here’s the third and final installment of the best and worst cloth diapers for poo!  (Here’s the first and second installments.)

Swaddlebees Simplex One Size cloth diapersSwaddlebees Simplex All-in-One

Swaddlebees Simplex All-in-One one size cloth diapers will contain an average poop.  It sprays off well enough, but it’s more prone to get stuck in the elastics than some other diapers.  Depending on how you’ve got the all-in-one tongue folded, you would have to be careful not to drop the length in the toilet.  The birdseye cotton is also very prone to staining.  Meh.

GroVia hybrid cloth diapersGroVia Hybrid

The shell is a fantastic thing to clean for poops.  I love how the mesh in the shell works with the sprayer.  No splash back like I find in other all-in-two diapers.  However, I hate the insert for poop.  There’s that two layer structure on the insert that just sucks for poop.  Invariably, poo get stuck in the gusset on the pad.  Poo gets between the layers.  And the organic insert stains horrendously.  It’s much easier to spray the poo off of the GroVia prefolds.

BumGenius Elemental

This is a great diaper if you like organic fibers and all-in-one diapers.  However, I hate cleaning poop.  The design of the Elemental leaves me with some of the same issues that I have with the inserts on the GroVia hybrid.  Poo gets caught between the layers.  It’s more prone to staining than microfiber and microfleece.  Don’t get me wrong; I love BumGenius Elemental cloth diapers.  I just don’t love when poop happens in that diaper.

AppleCheeks cloth diapersAppleCheeks

These are part of my “best diaper for overnights ever” collection.  I love them and wouldn’t trade them for anything.  With that in mind, they suck for messy poops.  The insert is stuffed through the middle, which means that you’ve got three poop options.  You can hope that it just falls off.  You can spray it with the insert inside.  Or you can touch poop to get the insert out without saturating it.  Ugh.  So far, I’ve been lucky and only had one poo in my AppleCheeks cloth diapers.  Fortunately, it fell off.

Sunbaby Cloth Diapers

Sunbaby cloth diapers come in the most adorable, gorgeous patterns imaginable.  I have a purple paisley one that is just beautiful.  That being said… it’s a cheap diaper.  Changing poops in them suck because of the placement of the insert opening.  My husband has actually asked me point blank to never buy those diapers again.  After the poo I changed yesterday afternoon, I’m inclined to agree with him.  Ugh.  And it wasn’t even that awful of a poop.  The Sunbaby contained it, but the clean up was dreadful.

Where to buy: Sunbaby.com, various co-ops

So that’s my complete list of the best and worst of cloth diapers for poo.  What are your best and worst?
