Buying Cloth Diapers – Co-Op Or Retail?

I’m no stranger to buying cloth diapers.  While I usually stick to buying cloth diapers from my local cloth diaper store, I’ve been known to shop from a co-op.

Buying Cloth Diapers from a Co-Op

When you’re buying cloth diapers from a co-op, you’re getting some diapers at some absolutely amazingly low prices.  Really, the price is the single biggest draw to going through a co-op.  There’s also the sense of community that can be built through a co-op.  Some diapers (like my absolutely gorgeous purple paisley Sunbaby diaper) are beautiful and not readily available from other sources.  Letting the co-op head deal with ordering from overseas instead of having to deal with that headache yourself is fantastic.  If you’re out for a beautiful diaper to wear with an outfit but have no illusions of it holding up for more than a season, then co-ops are a great source for that.  And I’m really fond of RLR, but it’s not locally available.  And I can buy it from a co-op for half the price. Best Cloth Diapers for Valentine’s Day

Cloth diapers are fun. Valentine’s Day can be fun. Dressing kids up in cloth diapers for valentines day is really fun. I’ve taken a look around the Internet to find the best cloth diapers for Valentine’s Day.

Choosing the Best Cloth Diapers for Valentine’s Day

There are tons of cloth diapers out there. I haven’t used all of these companies, but some of the cloth diapers are so darned cute that I really want to! If I haven’t used the company and am just squeeing over the sheer cuteness, I’ll say so.

Charlie Banana – The William and The Kate

In honor of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding, Charlie Banana came out with a lovely diaper with hearts.  For the boy, there’s the William and for the girl, there’s the Kate.  Both have hearts on them, and are perfect for Valentine’s Day.  Plus, the diapers are cute and just plain work.

Bottombumpers – Red with White Polka Dots

Have you seen the new Bottombumpers line up that they announced at the ABC Show?  The red diaper with white polka dots just screams “Happy Valentine’s Day!”  As for the amazingness of the diaper, I’m still uncertain.  I have one, but I’m just not quite sure I get it.

Sunbaby HK Hearts

Sure, I’ve said in my review of Sunbaby diapers that you get what you pay for.  But Hello Kitty is super cute.  And Hello Kitty in hearts is even cuter.  On the bright side, if your Sunbaby diaper fails after a few weeks, at least you didn’t spend much on it.

Best Cloth Diapers for Valentines Day (Cloth Diaper Addicts)Little Britches with Unique Stitches – Snoopy

Ever since getting my first WAHM diaper from Diapers by Chris, I’ve become increasingly enamoured with the idea of shopping Etsy shops.  I haven’t tried anything from Little Britches with Unique Stitches, but the cuteness (and gender neutrality) of her Snoopy diaper has me considering it.  Nevermind the pink inner; no one will see that, anyway.

Best Cloth Diapers for Valentines Day - Conversation Hearts (Cloth Diaper Addicts)Simple Additions – Conversation Hearts

I typically don’t do covers because I mainly use things that already have the PUL in them.  However, this PUL cover in the adorable and ever so seasonal conversation hearts from Simple Additions has me ready to use my prefolds as diapers instead of as extra inserts for my super soaker son.  Really, what says Valentine’s Day more than conversation hearts with sweet little phrases?

I’m a WAHM Cloth Diaper Fan (Thanks to Diapers by Chris)

I'm a WAHM Cloth Diaper Fan, Thanks to Diapers by Chris (Cloth Diaper Addicts)

Isn’t this gorgeous? It’s going to be a diaper!

Until I got my WAHM cloth diaper from Diapers by Chris, I’d never tried a WAHM cloth diaper.  Sure, there were some cute things, but I was afraid.  A WAHM cloth diaper can be expensive.  I would be taking a chance on getting ripped off.  I was uncertain about warranties and quality control.  And I had to make sure that it was a true WAHM cloth diaper shop, not a shop that claimed to sell WAHM diapers but were actually rebranded China cheapies at a 400% mark up.

Really, it’s a lot of the same debate that I had any time I considered buying cloth diapers from anywhere but my local diaper shop.  (Usually, that struggle involves feelings of infidelity, debating on if I want to go ahead and buy enough to qualify for free shipping, and some variations of worries about customer service.)

At the same time, though, I’d seen some absolutely gorgeous WAHM diapers on Etsy and such.

Thanks to Diapers by Chris, I’ve decided to be bold and give more WAHM diaper companies a chance.  In particular, I was for a pink paisley fabric that is similar to the pattern on the Purple Paisley Sunbaby diaper.  In fact, I’d go so far as to say that I need a pink paisley homemade diaper.  A pink crushed panne interior and petal inserts topped with cotton velour sounds really, really appealing…  And it absolutely must have PUL, whether it’s hidden or a PUL print because I don’t want to cover up anything that beautiful.

And what’s awesome is I gave Chris some vague idea of what I wanted, and she’s found something that’s beautiful.  I will have my beautiful pink paisley diaper, and I can’t wait!

Have you ever used WAHM diapers before?  What was your experience like?

Cloth Diapers – Best and Worst for Poo (Part III)

Here’s the third and final installment of the best and worst cloth diapers for poo!  (Here’s the first and second installments.)

Swaddlebees Simplex One Size cloth diapersSwaddlebees Simplex All-in-One

Swaddlebees Simplex All-in-One one size cloth diapers will contain an average poop.  It sprays off well enough, but it’s more prone to get stuck in the elastics than some other diapers.  Depending on how you’ve got the all-in-one tongue folded, you would have to be careful not to drop the length in the toilet.  The birdseye cotton is also very prone to staining.  Meh.

GroVia hybrid cloth diapersGroVia Hybrid

The shell is a fantastic thing to clean for poops.  I love how the mesh in the shell works with the sprayer.  No splash back like I find in other all-in-two diapers.  However, I hate the insert for poop.  There’s that two layer structure on the insert that just sucks for poop.  Invariably, poo get stuck in the gusset on the pad.  Poo gets between the layers.  And the organic insert stains horrendously.  It’s much easier to spray the poo off of the GroVia prefolds.

BumGenius Elemental

This is a great diaper if you like organic fibers and all-in-one diapers.  However, I hate cleaning poop.  The design of the Elemental leaves me with some of the same issues that I have with the inserts on the GroVia hybrid.  Poo gets caught between the layers.  It’s more prone to staining than microfiber and microfleece.  Don’t get me wrong; I love BumGenius Elemental cloth diapers.  I just don’t love when poop happens in that diaper.

AppleCheeks cloth diapersAppleCheeks

These are part of my “best diaper for overnights ever” collection.  I love them and wouldn’t trade them for anything.  With that in mind, they suck for messy poops.  The insert is stuffed through the middle, which means that you’ve got three poop options.  You can hope that it just falls off.  You can spray it with the insert inside.  Or you can touch poop to get the insert out without saturating it.  Ugh.  So far, I’ve been lucky and only had one poo in my AppleCheeks cloth diapers.  Fortunately, it fell off.

Sunbaby Cloth Diapers

Sunbaby cloth diapers come in the most adorable, gorgeous patterns imaginable.  I have a purple paisley one that is just beautiful.  That being said… it’s a cheap diaper.  Changing poops in them suck because of the placement of the insert opening.  My husband has actually asked me point blank to never buy those diapers again.  After the poo I changed yesterday afternoon, I’m inclined to agree with him.  Ugh.  And it wasn’t even that awful of a poop.  The Sunbaby contained it, but the clean up was dreadful.

Where to buy: Sunbaby.com, various co-ops

So that’s my complete list of the best and worst of cloth diapers for poo.  What are your best and worst?
